Hornoyaco

Hornoyaco es el nombre de otra cascada, en mi opinión, es aún más impresionante por su aspecto más salvaje. Este sitio también es fácil de alcanzar desde la posada turística Dantayaco. Después de pocos kilómetros por la calle hacia Mocoa, empieza una caminata que va por troncos de madera subiendo la montaña hacia donde empieza la cascada. Desde allá, se va por un camino más angosto por la selva bajando hacia donde la cascada forma un pequeño lago y baja el rio en dirección hacia Mocoa. En este pozo se puede bañar, y se siente la fuerza inmensa del agua cayendo y de la brisa. Para mí, un sentimiento impresionante, aún más porque allá no se encuentra a nadie más. Me senté en una piedra grande, escuchando música de mi reproductor, respirando profundamente y observando los arcoíris formándose. Casi demasiado cursi para ser real. En el camino de vuelta, vi unos micos en los arboles bien arriba, que estuvieron comiendo fruta, tirando las semillas al suelo. Ese fue un tour emocionante y refrescante por las montañas y bosques del Parque Nacional de la Serranía de Churumbelos del cual el Hornoyaco hace parte.

Hornoyaco is the name of another waterfall. In my opinion, it is even more impressing, because it's surrounding is less crowded and because of that it seems like you are into the wild. It is also easy to reach from the posada Dantayaco. After some kilometres on the street to Mocoa, you follow a wooden path up to where the waterfall begins, that is about one hour walking. Then you can climb down the hill to the place where the Hornoyaco forms a lake and as a river continues into direction Mocoa. In this lake it's possible take a bath, and you can feel the force of the 55 meters high waterfall coming down and its breeze. For me, it was an overwhelming feeling, even more because there was anybody else around there. I set on a little hill, listening to music from my mp3, breathing deeply and watching the rainbows forming on that sunny day. It was almost a bit too cheesy to be real. On the way back, I noticed the little monkeys in the trees whose where eating some fruits up there, throwing the seeds on the floor. That was a beautiful and refreshing tour up in the mountains and forests of the National Park Serranía de los Churumbelos.

Hornoyaco ist der Name eines weite­ren Wasserfalls, meiner Meinung nach vielleicht noch ein wenig beein­druckender, da die Umgebung we­sentlich einsamer ist und dadurch wilder wirkt. Auch dieser ist von der Posada Dantayaco leicht zu erreichen. Nach wenigen Kilometern auf der Straße Richtung Mocoa geht es über einen durch Stücke von Baum­stämmen befestigten Weg einen etwa einstündigen Fußmarsch hinauf zur Quelle des Wasserfalls. Danach über einen Trampelpfad durch den Regen­wald hinunter, wo man zu der Stelle gelangt, an der sich der Wasserfall über einen kleinen See weiter in Rich­tung Mocoa formt. In diesem See be­steht die Möglichkeit zu baden und dabei spürt man die gewaltige Kraft des aus etwa 55 Meter Höhe auf den Grund aufprallenden Wassers und der dazugehörenden Brise. Für mich ein überwältigendes Gefühl, umso schöner, da weit und breit keine Men­schenseele zu sehen war. Ich setzte mich auf einen Felsen, im Gepäck meinen mp3-player, atmete tief ein und beobachtete die Regenbogen, die sich in der Sonne formten. Beinahe etwas zu kitschig, um wahr zu sein. Auf dem Rückweg wurde ich durch die herabfallenden Fruchtkerne auf die Äffchen aufmerksam gemacht, die sich auf Nahrungssuche befanden. Eine erfrischende, bewegende Tour durch die Berge und Wälder des Na­tionalparks Serranía de Churumbe­los.

C.E.A. – Centro Experimental Amazónico

El Centro Experimental Amazónico, por lo menos la parte que uno puede visitar; tiene como mayor preocupación el cuidado de animales silvestres, los cuales han sido capturados o decomisados. El objetivo de la institución es, después de cuidarles un tiempo, devolverles a la vida en la naturaleza. Algunos de ellos, por estar muy acostumbrados a estar en cautiverio, se quedan en el C.E.A. por su propia seguridad. De estos animales, los que a mí me parecen más interesantes, porque casi nunca se los ve así de cerca son las dantas, la anaconda, los monos araña y el pirarucú, un pez del rio Amazonas que mide hasta tres metros de longitud. Los fines de semana, a los turistas les dejan entrar para caminar por el área, si usted quiere también con guía. Una caminata por las jaulas de los animales, acompañados por avisos informativos e interesantes, este lugar, esta programado para ser terminado hasta el febrero del 2014, pero en este momento ya se puede observar muchos animales; aparte de eso, existe también un jardín botánico de plantas medicinales tropicales, que desde mi punto de vista requiere más atención pero ya están en proceso de organizarlo. Para mí, un lindo paseo, a pocos minutos desde la posada turística.

Centro Experimental Amazónico, roughly translated, means Amazon research centre. Because of lack of money for investigation, at least the part of the centre that you can visit, concentrates on taking care of animals that were captured by poachers. The aim of the institution is to release them back to the wilderness after caring for them a while. Others, which have already become too accustomed to humans, remain for their own protection in the C.E.A. For me, some of the most interesting ones, because you usually don't see them that close, are tapirs, an anaconda, spider monkeys and the until three meters long pirarucú fish coming from the Amazon river. During the weekends, tourists are allowed to visit the centre to walk – if they want with a guide – through the area. A path through the animal compounds, guided by interesting information panels, will be finished in February of 2014. But even today it is possible to watch lots of animals. Apart from those, there exists a botanic garden of medicinal plants from the tropics, that for me, requires some more attention. Altogether, it is a really nice tour to do and just some minutes away from the hostel Dantayaco.

Centro Experimental Amazónico – übersetzt etwa soviel wie Forschungszentrum Amazo­niens. Obwohl sich das Institut aus mangelnden Forschungsgeldern, zumindest innerhalb diesen Teils des Zentrums, derzeit eher mit der Beherbergung von Tieren beschäftigt, die Wilderern abgenommen wurden. Das Ziel der Einrichtung ist, diese nach der Pflege wieder in die freie Wildbahn zu entlassen. Andere, welche sich bereits zu sehr an den Menschen gewöhnt haben, bleiben zu ihrem eigenen Schutz im C.E.A. Unter diesen, für meine Begriffe besonders spannend, einige Tapire, eine Anakonda, Spinnenaffen und der aus dem Amazonas stammende, bis zu drei Meter lange Pirarucú-Fisch. Am Wochenende gewährt das Zentrum den Touristen Einlass in das Zentrum, diese können, bei Bedarf auch unter Anleitung, eine Tour durch das Gelände unternehmen. Ein Pfad durch die Tierge­hege, mit interessanten, liebevoll gestalteten Informationstafeln, soll bis Februar 2014 fer­tiggestellt werden. Aber bereits jetzt kann man viele Tiere bestaunen. Außerdem existiert ein Botanischer Garten mit tropischen Medizinalpflanzen, obwohl dieser meiner Meinung nach mehr Aufmerksamkeit bedarf. Alles in allem ein schönes Ausflugsziel, wenige Fahrt­minuten von der Ferienunterkunft entfernt.

Mariposario – Paway

Paway, en lengua de los indígenas Inga, significa “volar”. En Mocoa, el centro ecoturístico amazónico es conocido como “el mariposario”, pero aparte de la cría y el cuidado de varias especies de mariposas, allá hay mucho más que conocer. En el centro también viven micos y papagayos, muchos de ellos están libres pero permanecen en el área, y los micos se alegran cuando viene un turista para entretenerlos. Aunque la variedad de animales no es tan grande como en el C.E.A., uno tiene – si quiere o no – contacto directo con los animalitos. Algunos de los micos fueron enviados por el C.E.A. para cuidarlos en el Paway en jaulas. A los amables dueños les gusta explicar su proyecto y ofrecen artesanía y regalos extraordinarios. También es posible hacer caminatas dentro del área para disfrutar y conocer la Flora y Fauna; aparte de eso, el centro tiene posibilidades para dormir, una de estas es la casa en un árbol (Ceiba) colocada a 25 metros sobre el suelo. No es tan barato pero es una experiencia especial. El camino corto hacia Paway, que empieza cerca de la posada Dantayaco, sigue el rio Pepino, donde hay la oportunidad de tomar un baño refrescante.

 „Paway“ means „fly“ in the language of the indigenous people (the Inga). In the region, the centre for ecotourism of the Amazon is known as “mariposario”, as a butterfly recreation centre. But apart from that, it has way more to offer. There are living numerous monkeys and parrots, most of them outside of cages and the monkeys are happy to welcome any tourists and to play with them. Even though the variety of animals is not as big as in the C.E.A., here you'll have the chance to be in direct contact with them – whether you want it or not. Some of the monkeys were sent by the C.E.A. to take care of them in cages. The friendly owners are pleased to tell you about their project and sell extravagant souvenirs. Apart from that, you can take a walk inside of the area to enjoy the flora and fauna. In addition, the centre offers some accommodation possibilities. One of them is the tree house in 25 meters hight, even it is not the cheapest way to stay, I'm sure that it is a special one. The short walk to Paway, which starts close from the posada Dantayaco, follows the Pepino river, where you can take a refreshing bath.

„Paway“ bedeutet in der Sprache der Indigenen Inga „fliegen“. In der Gegend ist das Zen­trum für Ökotourismus Amazoniens als Mariposario, als Schmetterlingsfarm bekannt. Neben der Aufzucht und Pflege zahlreicher Arten beherbergt das Paway aber außerdem zahlreiche Affen und Papageien, hauptsächlich leben diese im Freien und letztere erfreuen sich über jeden Touristen, mit dem sie spielen können. Wenngleich hier die Vielfalt der Tiere nicht so groß ist wie im C.E.A. hat man hier, ob man es möchte oder nicht, direkten Kontakt mit den Tierchen. Einige Affen wurden vom C.E.A. gesandt, um diese hier in Käfi­gen zu pflegen. Gern geben die freundlichen Betreiber eine Erläuterungen zur Farm und bieten extravagante Souvenirs an. Darüber hinaus können innerhalb des Geländes auch Wanderungen unternommen werden, um die hiesige Flora und Fauna auf sich wirken zu lassen. Das Zentrum verfügt auch über diverse Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten, unter ande­rem das in 25 Meter Höhe befestigte Baumhaus. Wenn auch nicht ganz günstig ist dies sicherlich ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis. Der kurze Weg nach Paway, welcher in der Nähe der Ferienunterkunft Dantayaco startet, führt entlang des Pepino-Flusses, in dem ein er­frischendes Bad genommen werden kann.

Un viaje al Fin del Mundo

Mocoa, Putumayo. Aunque para mí es la cuarta vez que estoy en Colombia, antes nunca había escuchado de esta región. A la persona con la cual viajé a Colombia le comentaron de este mágico lugar: cascadas, naturaleza virgen y el misterioso “Fin del mundo”, que según ella es como hacer parte de la película “Jurassic Park”. Mis queridos amigos colombianos que siempre nos ayudaron mucho en cuanto al hospedaje o consejos de viaje, en este caso en particular optaban por decirnos que no fuéramos para allá - “Noooo! Mocoa? Por qué??”...“Es muy peligroso, por favor no vayan allá!”...“Eso queda en el medio de la selva, la única cosa que hay por allá es guerrilla y paramilitares”. Así, tomamos la decisión de no irnos para Mocoa, no obstante, muchas veces en nuestro viaje por Colombia encontramos personas que nos contaron de la belleza de este sitio así que nos sentíamos arrepentidas de no haber ido juntas cuando tuvimos la oportunidad. Por suerte, yo no tenía que devolverme a Alemania, y empecé a buscar posibilidades de trabajo voluntario. Por cosas del destino, tuve que elegir entre la Costa del Caribe y Putumayo y espontáneamente me decidí por Mocoa. La misma noche que tomé la decición, me subí al bus para allá y al llegar supe que no me iba a sentir decepcionada...

Mocoa es un lugar mágico, donde aún existe la posibilidad de encontrarse con un chaman. Es un sitio donde la naturaleza aún no se ve tan impactada por la intervención del hombre; un sitio que te da la oportunidad perfecta para estar lejos de la vida cotidiana y del ruido de la ciudad. Ahora sí, puedo decirlo felizmente, hablando desde mi propia experiencia, justo como en el anuncio colombiano: “Mocoa, el único riesgo es que te quieras quedar.”

Mocoa, Putumayo. Although this is my fourth time in Colombia, I've never heard of this region so far. It was a friend of a friend of mine I was traveling through Colombia with this time, who told her of the beauty of that place – waterfalls, virgin nature and the mysterious “Fin del mundo” - the world's end – which according to her seems like taken out of the movie “Jurassic Park”. Usually the contacts to my Colombian friends helped us a lot. In this case it kept us from discovering that beautiful place. “Nooo, Mocoa? Why?” … “That is way too dangerous, don't go there!”...”That is in the middle of the jungle, it's full of Guerilla and Paramilitary!” That is why we decided not to go to there, even though we met lots of people on our trip that told us enthusiastically about that region and let us regret our decision. Fortunately, I didn't had to go back home after our trip and began to search for a voluntary job in Colombia. After some requests, I should decide between the Caribbean coast and Putumayo and spontaneously, I took the opportunity to go to Mocoa. The same day, I took the bus in that direction and I should not regret this decision...

Mocoa is a magical place, a very natural, still original spot where you even have the opportunity to meet shamans. It provides the perfect possibility to take some time for yourself and get away from the everyday-life of the big cities. Satisfied, I can now tell from my own experiences, just like in the Colombian advertising campaign: “Mocoa – the only risk is that you want to stay.”

Mocoa, Putumayo. Obwohl dies schon mein 4. Kolumbienaufenthalt ist, habe ich von dieser Region bislang nie etwas gehört. Erst die Bekannte einer Freundin, mit der ich durch Kolumbien reiste, schwärmte ihr von diesem Ort vor – Wasserfälle, unberührte Natur und das geheimnisvolle „Fin del Mundo“, das Ende der Welt, welches nach ihren Formulierungen an Ausschnitte des Films „Jurassic Park“ erinnert. Meine sonst so ge­schätzten Kontakte zu einigen Kolumbianern hielten uns in diesem Falle leider vorerst davon ab, dieses Reiseziel zu verwirklichen. „Neiiin, Mocoa?“...„Das ist viel zu gefährlich, fahrt da auf keinen Fall hin“...„Das ist doch mitten im Dschungel, da wimmelt es von Guerilla und Paramilitärs“. So entschieden wir uns gegen die Fahrt nach Mocoa, obwohl wir auf unserer Reise immer wieder auf Menschen trafen, die uns begeistert von dieser Gegend erzählten und uns unsere Entscheidung bereuen ließen. Glücklicherweise war ich nicht dazu gezwungen, die Heimreise nach Deutschland anzutreten und begab mich nach unserem Trip durch halb Kolumbien auf Jobsuche. Nach einigen Anfragen sollte ich mich dann zwischen der Karibikküste und Mocoa, Putumayo entscheiden und wählte spontan Letzteres, das mir noch Unbekannte. Am selben Abend machte ich mich auf den Weg und sollte nicht enttäuscht werden...

Mocoa ist ein magischer Ort, in dem man tatsächlich dem ein oder anderen Schamanen begegnen kann. Ein noch sehr naturbelassenes, ursprüngliches Fleckchen. Es bietet die perfekte Möglichkeit, etwas Abstand und Ruhe vom Alltagstrott und Großstadtleben zu finden. Zufrieden kann ich aus eigener Erfahrung, gleich dem Werbeslogan Kolumbiens behaupten: „Mocoa, das einzige Risiko ist, dass du bleiben willst.“
